I am an American planning to move to Ireland. What hints can anyone give as to pros/cons,jobs,living costs,etc

I'd like to know about what it cost to live such as rental prices, real estate prices. How easy is it to open a business there such as a pub or bookstore. Thanks a bunch.

By Ireland I assume you mean the Rep. of Ireland, and not Northern Ireland.

When living in Ireland, Houses, costs of living, etc... are way more expensive in Dublin than other parts of the country.

Argos ( www.argos.ie ) is a good shop to get discounts on electrical products, furniture, etc.  They also have a 16 day change-of-mind return policy if you want to return an item you don't want.

Tesco is a good place to shop, but check the expiry dates on some of the food.  Also it has the record of the poorest customer service in Ireland, beating even discount stores Aldi and Lidl.

About your business:

You need a pub license to operate a pub, which is very expensive by the looks of things (way over 200,000 euro!).  As well as that, you have to deal with drunks late at night.

You probably wouldn't have as much problems setting up a bookshop.  You should locate it near where your potential customers live, and also don't open up shop near many other bookshops!

It is relatively easy to start you business as a Sole Trader, however you should seriously consider setting up a limited company.

You should visit a qualified Irish solicitor and they will tell you exactly what you should do.

Hi,im an irish girl living in the suburbs of Dublin,Rental is high the nearer you are to the centre of dublin,so is everything really!wages are ok better if your qualified, for jobs have a look at jobs.ie.irishjobs.ie and fas.ie it would be easy to open a bookstore would take a look at the commercial prices on the following websites check out myhome.ie and daft.ie to check out all the prices in the whole of ireland, good luck

www.daft.ie best website for looking at rentals and real estate in all area's of Ireland. House prices are expensive here, and a total rip off in Dublin, head for the country for a cheaper cost of living. Businesses, I know nothing about, but one thing I know is that there are thousands upon thousand of pubs countrywide and we could do with more, this is Ireland after all. Im sure if you google it some info will come up

very expensive, lower than us wages, rainy, very cold in winter, and yes : unless you are very lucky pub liscences are hard to get and you better have  a good business plan to even get funding for such an effort.  The EU employment laws are ratjer restrictive. check this website : http://mag.insideireland.com/backissues....
