I have been to Jamaica a few times. The first time I went, I was there for about 3 1/2 weeks doing all kinds of humanitarian work. I loved it so much I did not want to come home!!

Well, I am at a place in my life now where I would like to spend my whole next summer there. I enjoy all of Jamaica, well that I have seen. I need to know what would be the best place for my son & I to stay, and how to find an apartment or house, for CHEAP.

I have googled it a million different ways. I need real people with real answers!!

Thank you!

  1. If I wanted to visit Jamaica that badly, I would contact the Jamaican Ministry of Tourism and inquiry where is a safe place to live in Jamaica?

    Check them out online.

  2. If you can manage a small sailboat, you can stay at the Errol Flynn Marina and Boatyard for $10 a day on a mooring if you rent it by the month.

  3. try www.craigslist.com/jamaica  look in the classifieds apartment rentals good luck

  4. Try vrbo.com and homeaway.com. Also try subscribing to Jamaica's online paper and viewing the classifieds.

  5. hostel living is cheap i go to jam alot and i live on a 600-700 dollar budget for 3-4 weeks one trip i had you can find a hostel for 20-40 usa bucks one good place is the prince of peace in new kingston Jamaica try to look that place up, it has a pool and a kitchen and its really nice you can work something out with the nuns that run it if your low on cash

  6. www.sangsterrealty.com has rentals in Jamaica.

  7. Best thing to do is visit the GLEANER online & look for the part of the island you want to live. The rates will be given in J$ so you can covert to see if its a deal. More ads will be in the Kingston area, but those rentals are usally higher, and Kingston is a BIG place, so if you don't know the area(s), its best you stay away from those rentals. Your best deals will be in the country, but you may not have running water or power ( in some areas ).

When you find some ads that you want to respond to, best to have a local ( you have friends there ? ) go check it out for you & report back if its nice or not. If theres no price in the ad, have your friend make the call...once they hear your accent, you'll be paying more ! Be prepared to start renting NOW so you don't miss the good deal. Typically a good deal would be a one bedroom with bath for $200-$300 a month....higher than that the closer you are to the city(s). Also, some come furnished, others don't, so you may be spending money on a bed, etc., and furniture in JA is expensive ! The GLEANER has ads for that too.

There are good deals out there ( not the ones ppl are suggesting here..the real estate companies post good deals, but they are either expired, or they are just come-on's to get you in the door ). Other than the GLEANER, the only way you'll find them is to BE THERE, so it may require you going for a week or so & looking around...often times there are community boards at the post office or stores advertising rentals, but as stated, you need to be prepared to rent NOW for the summer...that my require spending $1000-$1500 before your even there, but you'll know you got a place thats reasonable.
