Im in the process of doing this right now. The easiest way is to find a job before you go. VISA's are increasingly harder to get, so if you have a skill to offer you are in a better place to start from.

I moved from Oregon to Ballydehob, West Cork 10 years ago to own & operate a small village shop.  Since then both the rules and how they are applied have changed.

The main thing is to be persistant.  In Ireland there are no hard and fast rules; having political pull at the Irish end makes a big difference.

1. Go to a reputable real estate website.

2. Pick a house within your budget range.

3. Tell your family, friends, etc that you're moving.

4. Pack all of your stuff.

5. Sell or give away the big stuff.

6. Have your stuff shipped out.

7. Buy an airplane ticket.

8 Move.

9. Find a job.

10. Make some friends.

11. Be sure to renew your passport and green card and apply for a dual citizenship. It's so much easier than to renounce your American citizenship. I don't think you can get it back if you do.

And you're done.

Do a websearch on "Ireland Visa requirements" and also find out the length of time you can stay there without changing yoru citizenship.  That will give you time to make sure you like the place enough to move.
