I am trying to book weddings through craigslist and have had a little success. I am also putting together advertising materials and plan on hitting up bridal shops and hotel wedding planners. Any other ideas or advice?

  1. its amazing how many people want to start a business yet know nothing about actually running one. take courses on marketing, advertising, business law, finance, acounting and other business related subjects.

  2. If you an aspiring photographer don't start with weddings. Start simple and work your way up. Weddings can be very stressful. Start small and build from there. Portraits, engagement sessions things like that.

  3. wow

  4. You say you're an aspiring photographer....does that mean amateur? If so, weddings are NOT where you should be starting your career! The last thing you want to do is tick off a bridezilla on her wedding day. Next thing you know, you're in court getting sued for every last penny. If wedding photography is really what you want to do, start off by shadowing a professional in your area. They're usually happy to have an extra set of hands, whether it's to help take pictures or just to carry equipment and check out possible photo spots. It will help you better understand what the business is all about and it will give you the opportunity to ask a lot and learn a lot.

  5. word of mouth can produce amazing results.  talk about it with friends and family members.  show up to every event with a camera (which you maybe already do) and use it.

weddings are the 'big show.'  bear in mind they're stressful to shoot and require a lot of work.  (I'm a photographer too.)  maybe start, if you haven't already, doing some "sittings" with 1 or 2 people or a family.  again, word of mouth will pick up from there.

    good luck.
