I would like to know any suggestions on how to get the earthworms to come to the surface. I have tried wet newspaper and coffee grinds that were dry. My husband thinks that the coffee grounds must be moist or that it is too late in the season for the worms to come to the surface. I am open to any suggestions.

  1. Well here in Wisconsin  Ill go an hunt for worms after a nice long rain at night take a flash light an have fun pickin up worms

  2. Just buy some worms and raise them yourself for the fishing season. There's tons of sites that will show you how and it's easier than you think. So far I see your choices as: digging up your yard all night, just buying some to save the hassle or raising your own. It's your choice. ~good luck catchin'.

  3. Time to break out the shovel. If you've got a nice tree in your yard (my parents have an old oak and a mature camphor) dig under the canopy of the tree and have at it. This will have best results if there's been a good amount of leaf litter left as mulch, but still. If the worms won't come to you, you've got to go to them.

  4. Try this, get you a board 6in, wide, 3ft long. sharpen one end & hammer it into the ground, use another board to rub across the top, it

makes a grunting noise, that's why it's called Grunting.

  5. try flooding the ground with water. if you notice when it rains alot the worms come to the surface so they dont drown.

  6. What I would do in hot days of summer was soak the c**p out of the lawn right before it got dark. Then when it was dark, take your trusty flashlight with you and get those fat ones before they go back into their holes!!. Have a coffee can at your ready about 3/4 full of dirt and used coffee grounds. The coffee grounds don't really supply any nutrition but just something to eat for them. When you think you have enough worms for your can (about 24 if possible), take about 8 to 10 worms and cut them in half. Use a sharp blade so your not leaving guts hanging out. In about 2 weeks the worms that you cut will start growing again. Easy multiplying these guys!!!

  7. you should go out on a warm night with a flashlight after it rained all day and pick the worms right off the ground. They would be in places with short grass. I got 300 worms my first try. to store them you should make a worm box. all you need is a cooler, a drill, worm bedding (available at most walmart's) a piece of plywood as big as the cooler and a shady spot. just drill little holes therew the top of the cooler then dig a hole in a shady spot and put the cooler in it, make sure the top of the cooler is sticking out then put a inch of small stones in the cooler for drainage then put the worm bedding in and add the apropriate amount of water and add your worms. to feed them give them coffee grounds.

  8. Best time to go is after it rains. If they're not on the surface they won't be too far down.
