  1. I don't believe so.

    The "Combat Zone" rules only apply to military personnel to the best of my knowledge.


  2. The *only* difference is if you are working in support of the troops (construction work doesn't qualify), you get the courtesy of the extended deadlines for the combat zone.

    If you fulfill the 330/365 day test, you can exclude $85K of income (assuming your exclusion year is 1/1 to 12/31).
