Now I went to everyone and asked them (Assistant Principals, Guidance Counselors, even the principall) and they told me there is no way to switch because there are too many kids in the other class... mind you EVERYONE WANTS OUT OF THIS CLASS!! So they said I have to stick it out... But this teacher is terrible and very few kids get an A in his class! Can they do this like legally... if it will affect me academically? Are they allowed to tell me to stick it out?

  1. This EXACT thing happened to me in JH.

They were short on teachers so I got a Woods teacher for math, who knew nothing beyond measurements. Our final assignment was to map out an in ground sprinkler system using the least amount of material, which I later found out was for his house.

My protests went unanswered, so I had another more competent teacher tutor me on my spare period. I was the ONLY one to pass his class that year. It was only at the end of the year when everyone failed that action was taken. Everyone in the class was given the option to take their grade or to have only simply the words “pass” entered in their record. (I was the only one who didn’t take the “pass” option.

  2. yes they can. Maybe you should give him a chance. Maybe no one got an A in his class because they didn't earn an A.

  3. Just because a teacher is hard doesn't mean that you should try and get out of his class. Chances are you will learn more than the other classes. Are you worried about getting an A? Well then learn to work hard enough to get an A. If you are worried about your grades I assume you are looking at college. In college professors are hard, and they will try and help you, but at the end of the day they will give you the grade you deserve. Stick it out. You will be a better person for it.

  4. So very few kids get an A in his class.. sounds like he is challenging you.

Yes, they can tell you to stick it out. Just like in the real world you can't always choose who you will have to work for or who will be 'in charge.'

Just study and try your best, that is all you can do.

Unless this teacher is doing something really awful in his class. However, next year watch to make sure you sign up for classes with good teachers!

  5. I doubt you can force them to change.

Your best bet is to get your parents to insist on you getting moved to a different class.  If they are persistent and noisy enough about it (e.g. get your local school board involved) you might manage to get switched.

In the end though it is the school's decision.  Moving you to another class would probably mean moving someone into the bad class.  Great for you but not so hot for the poor dude that gets moved.  Someone else would have to suffer so you don't.

  6. "very few kids get an A"....is this really what you are concerned about OR is he/she 'really' a bad teacher??    Sounds like "demanding", "strict", "hard", etc....not bad.

Your only other recourse IF he/she is indeed a 'bad' teacher is to have your parents (NOT you) call the school Admin. office and talk to them.  You will get nowhere if you call....they will only listen to the parents at this point.

    Good Luck.
