Question:

I am an inexperienced air traveler. Can I carry on a backpack for my daughter and place it under our seat?

Or do we have to put it in the overhead bin. I am wanting to keep my 4 year old busy.

Also do powders also go in the quart size bag with my 3 oz or less liquids that I am carrying on?

Should I have a seperate bag for toiletries that I am checking in or just place them in my suitcase if there is room? I am worried about spilling on clothes and how rough the baggage workers are.

There are 3 of us traveling so I am assuming we each get a checked bag and a carry on.

Thanks so much

  1. Yes, you can take the backpack with the stuff for your daughter. You can have one or two bags with you. I recommend that you bring your daughter's things in one bag, and put it in the overhead bin, because it saves space. Also, the life jackets are usually at the bottom (it depends on what class you're taking: 1st, 2nd or 3rd), and you'll probably cover it in case of emergencies. And powders, hmmm.... you can take it it it's for a baby, as in, it has to be a milk formula, because they won't let you. The workers can think it's drugs or something, and put it in clear bags.  And if you decide to not take it with you, I think that  you should tape shut the bottles, and lock your other bags (you never know).

EXTRA TIP: Also, if you have shampoo, tape it and put it in a bag because the pressure can make it open and spill all over.

EXTRA TIP: If you're bringing something fragile, put it in it's own box, cover it in bubble wrap, and write FRAGILE, HANDLE WITH CARE in all the sides, so the baggage workers don't throw it all over and break it.

    Hope this helps!

  2. You can put the suitcase under the seat, just as long as its been scanned and all cleared through security.

You should pack the toiletries in a plastic bag in your suit case, if this is unavoidable pour them into those little clear 100ml plastic bottles you can buy.

You can only take liquids on the plane in hand luggage if they are in clear bags/bottles.

You should check the airlines websites as some have different restrictions to others.
