I have seen egg shakers and I currently have the NINO fruit and veggie shakers and love the way they look and sound but they brake and are unsafe for infants/toddlers. I really want something silly and more fun than just egg shakers, and they can't be too expensive (a dollar or two a piece would be great). Any ideas greatly appreciated!!

  1. Anything with a s***w top.

    Pop bottles work great!

  2. take toilet paper rolls, cover the ends with foil and fill them with beans. Tape or rubberband the ends shut. Instant shakers!

  3. I think pop bottles filled partway with a noisy substance, with a screwtop covered in contac paper would be great. At least my infants like them!

  4. Do-Re-Me-&-You (a divison of Kindermusik) has wonderful children's instruments, and they do carry shakers that are of course safe for kids. I have a 2 year old daughter, and she not only has the shakers from Kindermusik, but nearly every instrument they make. They are fun, of high quality, and reasonably priced.

  5. in my preschool class we make snappy shakers... you take paper towel tubes and decorate the outside with markers, crayons. then you put a handfull of beans in the shaker. staple a streamer to the ends and viola...a snappy shaker. my kids love making and playing with them...

  6. Ideas: 1) Hula hoops that have those beads in them. You can also shake them or use them as hula hoops.

               2) Fill a small storage container with a layer of pebbles. Put lid on top. This will require two or three kids to shake it or shake it while it's on the ground.

               3) Fill a four foot section of water hose with some popcorn seeds; seal the ends with a cork or duct tape. Shake by raising and lowering the ends or have two kids twirl it like jump rope.

               4) Apply beads onto string. Wear around wrists, ankles, neck or the waist. When kids dance, they make rattling noise.

               5) Get one of those clown punching bags that always stand back up. Apply those large-sized google eyes that make the rattling noise all around the clown. They can punch, kick, tap, shake the clown to make it rattle.

               6) Get one of those large exercise balls and fill it with maybe a cup of dry beans (enough to make a rattle but, not too much that the ball won't bounce). Kids can dribble, pass the ball around, kick it, bounce it, etc..

               7) Fill a backpack with a few things that rattle or with rattles. They can run around, jump up and down, dance, etc. while wearing it like a regular backpack. They can use their own backpacks so that you don't have to buy any.

Hopefully you like these ideas and possibly use them.
