When I fill out the FAFSA do I state I am employed even though I plan on quitting to go to school full-time? Also, does anybody know if you get a significant amount more for taking 15 hours opposed to 12 hours?

  1. I worked full-time until i started, too. Just fill it out as un-employed while attending. Yes, they will give you more money for more classes. Pell grants give about $2000 for four classes and a Stafford loan would give a lot more. Oh, be careful with that. You will be so sorry for taking all that money later. They will offer much more than you need. Other suggestions: I wouldn't start out with that many classes unless you are right out of high school and made excellent grades. Four classes in college is twice as hard as what high school classes would be. They give out astronomical amounts of reading that will be due the next class date. Like, some teachers (some of them are real hard-asses!) might require you to read and know material to one chapter (could run about 50pages) by the next class date. Then they'll give you a one question quiz with only only one correct answer! Most people get zero's. Now if you have taken three classes that require heavy reading your in deep doo doo, too. You'll end wanting to drop and then you'll have to pay that money back if you drop before 67%. Just a warning! Check it out.

  2. When you fill out your fafsa, it goes on your previous years income.  So if you quit tomorrow it would take a year for that drop in income to be reflected in your financial aid application.  You will not get more money for taking 15 hours than you would 12, but be aware you really need to take at least 15 a semester in order to graduate in 4 years.

Most people have bills and can't afford to just quit work and go to school... (fin aid isn't exactly something you are going to get rich on .... and most folks don't get enough to live off of without some sort of job).  The money goes directly to the school and IF (and I say IF) there is money left over you get the difference.

I would suggest going to just part time in your job before you flat out quit..  unless you are living with your parents or something and have no bills.
