Do you think I can still get into the MSW program with a 2.58 GPA instead of a 2.75. How can i explain my low GPA into my personal statement. But I have alot of experience working in social work background including working with populations such as adults, families, and adolescents with a mental illness. What do you think?

  1. The odds are against you but it is worth a try. You can also apply to other schools as well./

  2. That depends entirely on the school and how strictly they adhere to their program requirements.  Having worked in Academics at a University, I can tell you that your personal statement should briefly address the low GPA but focus more on what you will do to ensure that you will succeed in their program.  Your outside experience is great but the Dean/Review Board's sole concern is your academic future.  They will be looking to hear specific plans on how you will overcome starting off at a disadvantage to achieve top marks before graduation.

If you haven't already, start oulining a study plan; even if you don't get into this program there are others out there waiting for you and you will still need a plan of attack!  This is a good opportunity for you to review your successes and failures in your undergrad degree and define what helps/hinders your learning.  Know what to fix and then dedicate yourself to fixing it.
