There will be 3 of us (we don't mind if one has to sleep on the floor or something), and we hope to maybe rent a room, an apartment or something which would be comfortable enough, and close enough to the main attrations in the city. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, we are travelling on a limited budget too, so price is also an important factor to consider...

  1. best western is the clean and cheap.  and getting around the city is very cheap, just get the train all over town.  The best shopping is near the spainish steps!  In my opinion, why take a tour! Rome is so eaisily accessable by train!  However, if you want to see the Vaticane, you should take a tour, everything is taken care of already for you. a huge line is unaviodable to visit the vadicane, it line is around the city walls.

  2. Unfortunately Rome accommodation is not cheap. Especially if you are thinking ‘hotels’.

Yet, there are some rather cheap places near Termini station but it’s about 4-5 bus stops from the main attractions of Rome.

One cool place is this one near termini:  www.retrome.net it’s about 80 euro a night per person. You should speak to a guy named Moti. another good place is the www.the-beehive.com also near termini, a bit more expensive but clean and run by a nice couple Linda and Steve.

Another good way to split expenses and be at the centre is renting a small apartment at the centre from a privet owner that lets it for short terms for tourists. this will allow you to share the expenses (between 100-150 for 2-4 people) and still be at the centre. You will also be able to cook at the place so you’ll save on restaurants.

    Here are some:

    Near the coliseum: http://tinyurl.com/yljsr4

    Near the Roman Forum:  http://tinyurl.com/ykkyj7

At the jewish ghetto (very central, close to trastevere and campo di fiori, rome’s main night life areas):  http://tinyurl.com/yn4jj2

    Hope that helps.

Have a good trip and happy new year.

  3. I'll suggest hotel Eurostars International Palace -via Nazionale no.46. It's a very well located one, just few steps to the main beauties of Rome. Have a nice trip !
