My great grandparents were blue eyed Brahmins who were relocated by the British from India to the British West Indies. Some family members say that she was from Poona and he was from Bombay; others say that he was from Poona and she was from Kashmir. His name sounds like Maharajh Gusrat Bridgebroken and her name sounds like Mary Paurah. Does anyone recognize these names?

  1. Hi,

I do not recognise these name properly, but little bit understand. your first point may be  right that he was from Bombay and she was from Poona. But her name like Mary Paurah can not  be from Kashmir. These name seems to be unusual. You also can search the surnames on google and may find some help.

    Thanks,

    D

  2. Bridgebroken ? Might be something like Brij and "broken". Its generally spelled as Brij, not bridge.

If they had blue eyes, were they Indian ? Well, there are some people with grey-blue eyes around Poona, and many parts of western India actually. They're descended from intermixing with all the people who came to India in ancient times from places like Europe, central asia etc. Well, whereever your grandparents are from, I wish you good luck in searching for your roots.
