  2. Any major, other than aviation, that could lead to a second backup career.  Airlines won't care about your degree, what courses you took or your GPA, as long as it's reasonable.

Go to your local flight school and start taking lessons.  You instructor(s) will set you on the right path.  Aviation is one of those careers where you don't need to learn the material at a normal 4-year college.  In fact, many of us recommend not wasting college credits on aviation courses, because it's easy enough to learn it on the side, plus many people wind up leaving aviation for other careers (furloughs, get sick of being away from home, pay, all sorts of reasons).

  3. Airline hiring executives are hiring only applicants with 4-year degrees.  As aircraft systems and flight procedures become more complex, they want to be sure applicants have good learning skills and can absorb new information readily.  Hence the requirement for a 4-year degree.

The degree can be in any field as long as it is finished and the overall GPA is 3.5 or better.  Hiring executives are interested in degrees in accounting, business administration, and law enforcement, as well as the traditional science, math, and engineering degrees.

Engineering is probably still the best field for getting hired.

Of course you also need all the flight ratings and about 2000 hours total time.  So if you are 18, you'd better get started flying, like next Saturday.  You don't have to go to a commercial flight school, though it is probably better to do so.  You can get all your ratings at the county airport, if you can find the right instructor(s).

Unless you are in an aeronautical college, the courses would not matter much.  You still will need to go to commercial flight school.

    Good Luck...
