What is the process for seeing if it has a current title or if it needs one? Also, what do I need to get insurance, registration sticker, and inspection sticker?

  1. You're local DMV should have Forms and information on replacing or recovering lost titles. Once you get the title for the car, you can then process with the registration process.

  2. The current owner of the vehicle is responsible for going to the tax office/DMV and getting a duplicate title to replace the one they lost.  You cannot do it for them.  Do not pay them anything or take possession of the vehicle until they get the new title and sign it over to you.  Immediately after they sign the title over to you, go to the tax office/DMV, pay your taxes and get the title issued in your name.  Only then do you "officially" own the vehicle.  Just signing the back of the title is not enough!  Most states will give you 20-30 days to transfer the title into your name and get the registration/plates.

  3. Try to use google to find some related links or you could try to use answer engines like yahoo answer or answer.com to find some relevant questions. If you like some direct resource, here is a good one from my own experience.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...

  4. If the title is simply "lost" they can go with you to the DMV and transfer ownership. If they never had the title...don't buy it. It could be stolen or have a lien on it.

  5. The current owner needs to get a new title before you can buy the car. Beware of those who "say" the title is "lost" since they normally don't own the vehicle and you will be ripped off. No title, no deal.
