Hi, I am a 21 yearsold girl, living in Dubai. Recently i found having allergy to cows milk and egg, then red meat and chicken and now I cant take animal products any more, they make me feel sick and then i throw up immediately. Im much more comfortable and wealthy being vegetarian.

Started with Vegan Cereals + Soya milk in the mornings and found it amazing for my body. Now i eat soya beans and lots of different varity of beans and veggis during the day, lots of fruits and more mineral water.

Please give me ideas, peices of advice, comments, recommendations, reliable sources where i can read more about how to cook healthy vegetarian food

thank you so much for your attention

  1. Make sure you are eating enough protein and other nutrients (such as iron, vitamin B12, etc.). When a person goes vegetarian, they need to do it well and be researched. Otherwise the health ramifications can be severe.

I found the book, "A Teen's Guide to Going Vegetarian" very helpful.

  2. For those times when you need to go out, visit only vegetarian or at least vegetarian-friendly restaurants, lots listed on VegDining.com.  Here's the link for Dubai:

Good luck and congratulations on your compassionate and healthy choice!

  3. I have been a vegetarian for 10 years my only recommendation is to take a supplement for Protein and B-12. Through the years I found only one supplement to be superior and contain high contents of both and that is Klamath Blue Green Algae. I have used it for 8 years now and would recommend it to anyone. Heres a link. Hope it helps.

  4. Great posts fo far (mostly)....also, I just bought the book (you'll laugh when you hear this!) called "Skinny B*tch". I love it! It explains so much, also what you should/shouldn't eat. There is also a book that goes along with it called "Skinny B*tch in the Kitch". I just make a meatless meatloaf recipe from it and it was sooo good! The books are directed to an audience of women in their 20s and 30; but my boyfriend read it, and was interested too, he says whatever I cook he'll eat! Look it up on Google.

  5. I agree with the answer above that advises to make sure you have enough protein and vitamin B-12. Here are two articles that might help you with easy ways to add protein and B-12 to your diet:

  6. Don't do it! I'm allergic to crab meat so the doctor says, I've ate it for the past 10 years it hasn't bothered me! Go with the flow!

  7. Hi.

Awesome to hear your a veggie.

Thats great, keep eating a wide variety of foods like you have listed there, beans, pulses, lots of fruits and veggies, and make sure you get all the protein, iron, vitamins etc.

Vegetarian food is widely available in shops and restaurants, it's easy to cook and you're probably already eating many vegetarian meals such as beans on toast or jacket potato and cheese without even putting your mind to it. It's no sacrifice to give up meat when there are so many delicious recipes and so many tasty foods to experiment with. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you're eating a healthy diet that doesn't involve the killing of animals or the abuse of the world's resources.

Here are some good sites i find helpful, i hope they help you:

http://www.vegsoc.org/cordonvert/recipes... - Here is the vegetarian societys recipe page, you will find a number of recipes you might like and they are all great tasting.

http://www.vegsoc.org/info/basic-nutriti... - The basic nutrition you need, nutrients are usually divided into five classes: carbohydrates, proteins, fats (including oil), vitamins and minerals. We also need fibre and water, it gives you alot more information here.

http://www.vegansociety.com/html/home.ph... - The vegan societys home page.

http://www.plamilfoods.co.uk/chocolate.h... - I thought i would give you this one because as a vegan, i cant eat alot of chocolate, here is my favorite chocolate that i can eat, and i enjoy it very much =], it is approved by the vegan society. They also have lots of other things like egg free mayo and spreads etc.

http://www.happycow.net/health-animal-in... - Watch out for these ingredients, as they are all derived from animals.

http://www.quorn.com/ - Vegetarian substitute for meat, it is very tasty in a number of your favorite dishes instead of meat, it is also very healthy.

What You Should Eat Every Day on a Vegetarian Diet.

3 or 4 servings of cereals/grains or potatoes

4 or 5 servings of fruit and vegetables

2 or 3 servings of pulses, nuts & seeds

2 servings of milk, cheese, eggs or soya products

A small amount of vegetable oil and margarine or butter.

Some yeast extract such as Marmite, fortified with vitamin B12.

Hope this helps and good luck!
