I am being administratively separated from the United States Marine Corps, For convinience to the government ?

I recently found out i am getting seperated from the marines for multiple problems, including a personality disorder. What are my chances of getting benefits if I apply for them, and since the marine corps caused this, what are my chances of getting the classification changed from general, under honorable, to straight honorable?

The marines did the right thing in discharging you. It seems you haven;t learned to take responsibility for your own actions.

Contact one of the National Service Officers from AMVETS, or the American Legion.  Most larger cities have a Veterans Service Officer on staff, check your local telephone directory, local city, or state services.

You might after some years get the General removed but I doubt it will ever be changed to Honorable.

All you can do is try for the benefits, but you will have to prove the USMC service caused these prob and they were not just hiding.

under pressure we all revert to type

one of the things they do in basic is put you under pressure to see if you will crack.

people who crack get their battle buddies killed

they didn't cause your problem

they exposed it.

I am sorry that you wanted to serve your country but are unable to do so.

but you can live a long fulfilling life and serve your country by finding another occupation

To FOA: You said "we can't all be Marines" but he is a Marine because once you get your eagle globe and anchor you are a Marine for life. So you're wrong about that. I was discharged after only a year in the Corps but I know that I will always be a Marine. "Once a Marine, Always a Marine".

The irony of this is that there are soooo many troops with personality disorders.  Sometimes "normal" people have a hard time co-existing with the dominant numbers of people with personality disorders, especially in fields/units that can be attractive to those seeking self-glorification (special forces, airborne, etc.).  Narcissistic personality disorder is particularly rampant, according to a briefing I recently attended at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research.

The  personality disorder is a mood disorder which pre-existed your enlistment and should have disqualified you in the first place under the medical standard listed below. Since it is a mood disorder and not a true psychiatric condition which lends itself to treatment, the VA will not treat it. That's been against the law since 1981.

In order to get your discharge changed you would have to make application to the Board for Correction of Naval Records and document the mistakes made in diagnosing your case in the first place. Because your multiple problems might just have been physical signs of your psychological problems, your chances are slim.

You can still get benefits (but not disability) if the discharge is under honorable conditions.  If you have a personality disorder, the Marine Corps did not cause it and there's no way you can claim it did.

The Military will s***w all over you and call it a "Personality Disorder"

when in Fact you have PTSD...so that you can't get VA Benefits...

It happens everyday...it is in every service...
