  1. Cross stitch: see if you like it first by buying a cross stitch magazine with a free  kit. You can get all sorts of funky free kits with these magazines and they are often worth as much as the magazine so it doesn't really cost much at all.

Tapestry:  Try a small long stitch tapestry kit. The results are quicker to see than in cross stitch which is equally addictive but can take a little longer.

Card Making: you can buy fairly cheap card making kits of ebay etc, which result in cards that look professional but which you have made yourself.  Quick and simple.  If you enjoy it you can invest more.

Scrapbooking: You take your favourite photos and you design a themed paper craft page to set them off. e.g  I took my boys to Duxford plane museum to see a war event and I took photos and set them on a blue sky scrap book page, with plane embelishments and motiffs.  Really good to help you to remember special events and you dont forget the story behind the photos.  Again, lots of stuff available on ebay to help keep the cost down and you can look up examples on the internet.

My tip is keep is simple and dont buy too much until you know you like it.  There are also lots of craft yahoo groups where you can join in and exchange stuff etc and get advice.

    Happy crafting!

  3. Cross-stitching is just what you're looking for! If you haven't tried it before, you might try to get some pre-stamped items to start with, but as your skills improve, then you can move on to more challenging items that must be counted.
