I have a dog, and would like advice on introducing them. What have you done that has / or hasn't worked?

  1. It's going to be a rough couple days no matter what you do.  I'd just make sure that the kitten it out of reach and safe from the dog.

  2. my friend did the exact same thing

    she introduced them slowly

she took her dog by the collar, ready to pull him back if

something went wrong...she held  her kitten int he other and let them meet

her dog and cat are now fond of each other

  3. q00d f0r y0u!!!! the same thinq happened t0 me! but instead i was brinqinq a t - cup y0rkie h0m3 and t0 min3 and my m0thers supris3 0ur cat was afraid 0f the puppy l0l but they b0th qet al0t perfectly well....and that wh0l3 thinq ab0ut " RUB THE SCENT "! it d0es'nt w0rk try h0lding the kitty and sl0wly pushinq it t0wards the d0q if the kitty hisses pull back! [[ it qets b0th animals 2 smell each 0ther ]]

  4. Since dogs have that prey drive that makes them chase anything running away from them, keep the dog leashed at all times until you are certain the kitten will be safe.

  5. That's a problem. I don't have a pet but as far as I know if a animal is old enough to know their enemies it's hard to teach it different. You might teach an old dog new tricks but u wont teach a dog what not to eat (at last i think so). On the other hand if it's a pup, they will grow up together and be "best friends for ever".

    Good luck!

  6. Either it's going to work or it isn't!  Usually a kitten will get along well with a dog that has a good temperment.  But if you've never had other animals (and especially a cat) around your dog, watch them closely at first.  Some dogs have been known to injure or even kill a kitten.  You just have to become familiar with the behavior.  The dog may go to play with the kitten and also be too rough with it (not realizing the potential for injury).  So just watch over them and be sure to keep the kitten safe!

  7. Introduce them very slowly. Possibly rub something, like your clothes or a toy on the kitten, then give it to your dog to smell.

Keep them apart a little for the first few days, like seperate rooms, occasionally letting them out at the same time.

Reward your dog when they treat the kitten very well, and they well associate good reward with the kitten, and will end up loving to have the kitten around!

    Good luck!

  8. rub a piece of your clothing on the cat and bring it to the dog... do the same with the dog to the cat. They will get a scent from each other to help with the transition.

  9. First if u are bringing a kitten home u should keep it away from your dog for maybe when it hit 13 week old if u don't your dog will bite on it and put some were

  10. Erm keep them apart for a while this will keep the dog intrested and want to know what the newest addition to the family looks like :)

In a few days/to a week an then let the dog see the kitten

Gradually build up from there dont rush them to be friends or anything though they could end up biting each other or something

    Hope this helpss

  11. Keep them in seperate rooms for a few days, such as a bedroom.  Then switch - allow the dog to get a sense of the kittens smell and the kitten to get a sense of the dogs smell.  When you do introductions, keep it supervised and only do it for maybe an hour a day, increasing the time each day  (and don't hold the kitten during introductions, you may get a few scars!).  A new enviornment is stressful on a kitten, so let him/her get used to her place first, learn where to hide, etc before adding the stress of meeting a dog.

  12. What we did, is at the shelter, we introduced the kitten to a dog that the shelter owned, and saw how they reacted.

When we got home with our new cat, we put the dog in the fenced area of our home, and held the cat on the outside, put them near eachother. We let them sniff eachother through the fence and get used to eachother. We maintained this sort of contact for a few days.

Then we brought the cat inside the fence. We held on to it the whole time and let them sniff eachother. Again, we maintained this sort of contact for a few days.

Then we finally let the cat loose, with supervision, with the dog to see how they reacted. Since they played nicely and got along, our task was done.

Hope that I have been of some help. Good luck.

  13. well we just let our kitten when we got her do what ever she wants but one thing is dont let them get to close because your cat my scratch at the nose of your dog but other wise it will just hiss and snarl
