2. what is the cheapest video card I can buy but still run crysis well

3. what kind of mother board and processor should I get. I heard amd is good.

4. does anyone know of a white tower case that is good

5. and if there are any other tips on what I should buy as far as hard drives or other cases or speakers mouses or what ever

  1. 1. The wattage in your power supply will depend on what video card you get. Video cards take about as much power as everything else combined. For a single video card I would recommend 500 or more watts. If you intend to use 2 video cards (SLI or CrossFire) I would recommend 700 watts. Expect about 200 watts more for every card (3 cards=900 watts)

    2. To run Crysis at a reasonable graphics setting I recommend no lower than an 8800GT by Nvidia. I am not a big fan of ATI cards. To be sure you could max your settings look for a 9800 GTX or something like that, maybe even a 9800GX2 (They are incredibly expensive.)  The 8800 series does pretty well and will save you some money, but they are about a generation behind now, so the 9800 or GTX280 series would serve you better. Any 8600 or 9600 card probably won't perform up to par for something as intense as Crysis.

    3. AMD does make really good stuff, but Intel chips are faster (at the high end at least.) If you aren't needing the highest end most expensive stuff, then you will like AMD's prices. Look for the Phenom type processor (in the X2, X3 or X4 variety.) It will use a motherboard with socket AM2+ and DDR2 RAM most likely, so make sure all of that is compatible. If you decide to go intel, get the Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad. They will cost more than some of the AMD's, but the fastest Intel chip will handily beat out the fastest AMD chip. The socket for Core 2 chips is LGA775. It will also use DDR2 RAM.

    4. Search www.newegg.com for cases. They have a wide variety from the most plain beige box, to the coolest pre-modded cases in the world. If you happen to buy one with a power supply pre-installed, I highly recommend you swap it out for an after market power supply right away. You don't want that cheap one endangering your PC.

    5. Hard drives I would not get less than 300GB these days. That is basically the low end you want for ample storage. Music, video, and games just take up a huge amount of space, and running out sux. Make sure the drive is an SATA type as the read/write speeds are much faster.

Also do yourself a favor and get either 3 or 4 GB of RAM. ESPECIALLY when running Windows Vista, it is a blessing, but even on XP. You won't believe the difference it makes to have enough memory to do what you want. So many people that complain about Vista are trying to run it on 512MB or 1GB of RAM which is just silly. Technology has advanced 10 years since Windows XP has come out, and the Operating System has as well. "Future Proof" your machine by not cheaping out on the RAM.

Speakers, if you like your sound quality by something like the Logitech X-530. It is their "low" end 5.1 surround system, but the subwoofer is quite nice, and the speakers sound really good even at high volume. You can't beat it for the price.

As for mouse and keyboard, they are all pretty much the same. If you don't want to spend $100 or so just get a cheap one. (I'm not saying buy the 3 dollar mouse and 4 dollar keyboard, but you don't need to go all out if you don't want.) Mid range keyboards and mice do their job nicely. A logitech or Microsoft desktop set is what I would suggest.

Make sure your optical drive is a DVD-RW drive. They don't cost any more than standard CD burner drives, and most games (including Crysis) come on DVD's now.

Enjoy!! Gratz on your first PC. Hopefully you will enjoy the power of a custom one over a premade as much as I do.

  2. You don't need the greatest system in the world to play Crysis on "HIgh." I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.60GHz with XFX GeForce 8800 GTS x*x video card, in Windows XP, and I get well over 30 FPS average. 3DMark06 score of 9259.

I have a 500W power supply, running two hard drives and two DVD players, which is plenty. I'm actually using just below 200W according to my uninterruptable power supply.

You also don't need super cooling; I just have an Antec 300 case with three fans (rear, top and front) along with the CPU fan and video card fan, and my video card temps stay below 55C and CPU temps below 45C when it's around 75F ambient.

  3. you need at least 600watts as a comfortableness option.

    you could get a 9600gt at $190......

    I recommend a crossfirex 790fx and a phenom 9850 or 9580 (can't remember)

who cares about the case, if it holds your mobo and psu in place, cool

if you want to decrease, loading level times, get a raptor hard drive.

  4. 1. 550 watts should be a minimum. Advice is to buy the highest watt you can afford. Everyone tries to skimp here. better to buy a lower vid card than cheap PS.

    2. Nvidia 8400 or AT X1900 series should be the lowest.

3  AMD is good, but Intel is the current speed king/queen. I'd go with an intel core2duo processor and motherboard. The nvidia 780i based motherboard are solid.

4  It's mostly preference, head to newegg.com and see customer reviews. But I prefer Lian-li. Expensive but oh so pretty.

    5. Again check out newegg.com for reviews. I prefer Western Digital drives..Logitech makes good mice and keyboards
