  1. The only consideration you need to make is whether it's gas or electric.  If it 's gas, then you need to allow for some air flow into the room, so the burner can run, and of course, it's gotta be vented outside.   There are doors available with a grill already installed in the lower half, or you could use louvred doors.   If it's electric then you're good to go.  Just close it in and leave a way to get to it for element changes, etc.

  2. yes there are and the number  item is that you have plenty of fresh air and ventilation for the gas water heater. if you have electric its a lot easier

  3. Yes, there are safety codes, depending on where you live, you might check with your city building codes department.

It has to be properly vented, that's one thing for sure.

Best to check with the city on that one.....to be safe.

    Good Luck

  4. There are space requirements, ventilation and spill pan codes, varying on your locale.  You need to contact your municipal or county departments for the regulatons.

  5. Ditto the ventilation of gas hot water heaters.

Also, some installations of hot water heaters now require that the unit be standing in some kind of a pan, to catch leakage. This requirement varies between locales.
