I am buying a business next week but where do I get $4000 from?

It's something that I really want to do. It will be my first business. It is a distribution job where I will have an area of 500 stores, where I will be responsible for selling the products to. I am 4 thousand short of being able to afford the stock. I am supposed to buy this much stock to start as a distributor.

Do you think I should ask them to half the amount of stock I have to buy initially. I can always order more when I sell the first load.

Or, what is another option to borrow this much money. My family are far away and I wouldn't want to ask any friends to give me a loan. I hate to ask but I really want this distribution area given to me. (there are two other people interested as well) It's a great opportunity.

What do you think I should do?

  1. The government has special grants to help small business get started. That said, I don't know of any government that moves so quickly you'd get the money in a week. Try looking it up anyway.

Alternatively, look into small business loans from banks. Most small business loans are in the tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars... $4000 shouldn't be too hard to find.

  2. I'd be real careful to be sure this is really a viable business - sounds like you could end up scammed on it and end up with a lot of spare product.  Have these 500 stores already been buying this product, or do you have to convince them to carry it?  If you have to convince them, why do you have to buy the supply of stock ahead of time?

  3. Do the 500 stores know they belong to you?    What I means is, are these accounts all set-up or are your responsible for setting them up?  If you are responsible then you can have an area of a million stores.  The sky's the limit.  On the other hand if you have thousands of dollars worth of product no one wants except YOU then you do not have a business.  Be careful who you give your money to.  If they are selling product and not selling accounts then YOU DO NOT ACTUALLY HAVE A BUSINESS until you establish it yourself.
