I am buying an LCD television and need assistance

i am going to purchase my first flat-screen television and am looking for help in my shopping endeavors. i've already decided that i am buying an LCD. what technologies should i learn about? what technical details should i give notice to (e. g., contrast ratio, etc...). i am not really interested in specific models, although brand names that are known for a quality product would be of great assistance. like i said, i am mainly looking for technical details that will help me read through the specs so i can make my own educated decisions.

Well brands also matter alot when we gonna buy anything....like in LCD'S or thinngs like this i always prefer the brand name ''sony''........but they are many other brands like....LG,PANASONIC,TOHSIBA,SHARP AND ETC...

On other side ....You want a fast response time(4ms).You want a 120hz refresh rate.The higher the better in contrast ratio. Make sure it has a good number of inputs. The most important thing though is the image processor and Sony destroys everyone else in this category.
