I am committed to cricket, and my development: Jerome http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 – Cricket News Update
Jamaican paceman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JE-Taylor-c1682 has expressed incredulity regarding the allegations of the West Indies Cricket Board chief executive Ernest Hiliare, who accused him of having failed to take the rehabilitation programmes put into effect by the board seriously,
and has insisted that he is fully recovered and committed to the sport.
The 27-year-old, who was not named in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, after which he was forced to bow out of the game owing to a spine injury. He did go
on to feature in the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League for the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 franchise, but the back complaint led to his being sidelined for the national team.
He was not included in the limited-overs squad for a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 last year, with selectors demanding that he needed to complete a first-class competition and an entire season of four-day cricket before they could consider him for a spot in the Test
squad.
When asked to comment on Taylor’s protracted absence from the squad, Hilaire claimed that the pacer had failed to treat his injury seriously, or avail the rehab programmes the board had provided.
“ … Jerome was on contract, he was injured, he was put on a programme,” said Hilaire in an interview with
Sky TV. “… It was exceedingly difficult to get him to commit to the programme and to apply himself.”
The CEO also went on to add that after being put on the programme, the fast bowler had gone on to join the IPL. According to Hilaire, the board had done everything they could, but Taylor had failed to commit himself to rehab like a professional.
However, Taylor has spoke out against the accusations, clarifying that his dedication to the sport and to his own fitness had never wavered.
“…  I do not know where he is getting his information from,” he said in regards to Hilare’s comments. “As far as commitment is concerned towards cricket I don't think my efforts can ever be questioned … I am somebody who has always shown commitment towards
cricket and my development.”
He went on to add that he had recovered fully from the back injury he had sustained, after receiving a variety of treatment in the United States, involving acupuncture, strength training, and deep tissue massage. He also clarified that while he was keen
to resume his cricket career, the WICB had not been in touch with him for the past 18 months.
Speaking about the conditions laid out by the WICB for his return to the squad, the right-armer pointed out that while they were unfair, he had little choice but to do what had to be done in order to regain his spot in the team.
