My cat has three little bumps and one circular bump in ear. The three look sort of like stings they are just bumps but the circular one is round in shape but flat on the ear but it is raised, it actually reminds me of ringworm. can cats get ringworm?

  1. I'm pretty sure they can,but in any event,he could have been bit by something poisonous ,(such as a mosquito).you need to take him to the vet and get him checked out.

  2. Cats can indeed catch ringworm - I once caught ringworm off my Grans cat!!  (easily treatable so don't panic!).

It could be an infected scratch or if your cat goes outside, maybe something has irritated her ear or she could indeed have been nipped by a bity bug.  If the bite looks red, scabby or infected - or if your cat keeps shaking her head and flattening one ear down, pop her along to the vets just to check that a bug or grass seed hasn't got into the ear canal.

  3. probably best to go to the vet, injuries on the ears can lead to hematomas, which are easier to deal with when caught early. a vet will have the best info for your cat

  4. Cats can and do get ringworm, especially on the tips of the ears. This usually causes hair loss in the area. If you have a black light, and it is ringworm, the fur in the vicinity of the infection will usually have a greenish appearance under the light.

I had a cat who I discovered to have ringworm this way, however the infection was so low level and didn't seem to bother her, and fungal infections are difficult to treat as it is, so we never bothered treating it.

If it is ringworm, the main thing to worry about is the comfort of your cat, the potential for a secondary bacterial infection, and the prospect you her spreading it to you (though many strains do not spread readily and it's easy to treat in humans).
