I am concerned about my friend's cats?

im 16 and i think my friend is pretty nice about animals usually but his family is careless. they arent cruel, they just dont have that much time for animals and dont care much.

they have lost 2 (ran away/coyotes), and now a 3rd. (poison from a poisoned rat we think) really makes me sad.

she left behind 5 kittens that are now almost full grown; they have shots but arent spayed/neutered.

they are loving, and dont go far from home. but in our area there are coyotes that will sometimes come to us. (arid southern california)

luckily its summer and there are plenty of rabbits right now for the coyotes,

1.but do you think the kittens will start mating with eachother?

and another fortunate thing is that only one is a female, but still this is not really a good situation.

2. is it too late to give them away since they are pretty big?

  1. once the female kitten goes into heat the males will want to mount her whether they are related or not. it is never to late to give a kitten away, even if they are big. as long as they are social and sweet someone will take them. if you have trouble giving them away take them to your local humane society and see if they have room for them.

  2. Its never too late to give away a cat i got my 1st cat and it was 11.

  3. It's never too late! I just have no idea how you'll convince your clueless friend's parents to give them away. I'd say "threaten" them with the idea of having more kittens to feed. Also tell them that it's free to give them away. Hope it works!

  4. youre sooo sweet to care! no its not take them to the humane socitey they will find good homes at no cost to you and they will "fix" them there to at no cost to you. and most likely yes they will mate the longer they are left together. you are a good person- people like you make my day brighter know ing that they are helping animals!

  5. That is a tough situation.  It is not too late for them to be adopted if they havent been abandoned too long.  They get wild and wont do well in domestic situations after a while.  Humane societies often have policies where they wont put the animals to sleep.  Call around.

  6. You are so sweet to care.  Yes they will start mating with each other, and no it is never too late.  Contact a rescue in your area and tell them what you told us.  I am sure they will want to get involved.  Good for you for doing something about this.

If you don't want to contact a rescue take pictures and post them and try to find homes for them.
