I am confident of my abilities - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424
Virat Kohli, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s key middle-order batsman has said that after realising his crucial role in the team he has worked a lot on the mental aspect of his game and is confident of performing well in the soon-to-start ICC World Cup 2011.
"I learnt how to be mentally tough, not to be bogged down by the opposition”, said the 22-year old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 lad. “I feel much more focused. I am confident of my abilities", he added.
Kohli, with experience of 45 One Day Internationals (ODIs) under his belt and an average of 46.44, is expected to play a crucial role for India in the middle overs in ICC's showpiece event commencing on 19 February.
The right-handed batsman came into the limelight in 2008 when he led India to the Under-19 World Cup title in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Malaysia-c2949. But he said that he has worked a lot on his game and is more focused now as compared to 2008.
"I have made a few changes in my game in the recent past”, revealed the 22-year-old in an open media session in Bangalore. “I am just trying not to commit unnecessary mistakes...I am focusing on applying myself and play long and controlled
innings, avoid playing rash shots and work on mistakes", he added further.
Kohli also said that the changes he has brought to his game reflect in his personality as well.
The stylish Delhi lad, who was one of the star performers for India in last month’s ODI series against South Africa, said that he did not have any added pressure during the five-match series, rather he enjoyed playing against world class
Proteas bowlers.
Kohli further added that the experience he gained through the ODI series against Graeme Smith’s side would help him a lot in the prestigious World Cup event.
"I had some things in mind (in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757). I thought we would have to play as a team going into the World Cup. It was a really good experience to play and score runs in different conditions against different and world class bowlers",
he said.
India, placed in Group B of World Cup, will kick off their World Cup campaign against eastern neighbours http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 on 13 and 16
February respectively.
