I am a 53 year old female currently working as a medical secretary. I was a qualified psychiatric nurse in my younger days which I left to fit in around having a family. I now feel I want to wake up in the mornings and really look forward to going to work. I want to do something interesting and rewarding. I have just embarked on a reflexology course; I do feel drawn to alternative therapies and beauty therapy. I also love our pet dogs enjoying walking and I love to paint and draw. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Have you considered doing a course in Art Therapy? With your background you should do very well with it. Also it encapsulates your love of healing and art. At 53, you're still a young one!

  2. your only too old if you think you are old

my mum has a really good attitude to her age and lets nothing stand in her way ,so i guess i inherited the attitude and went to university at 40 do the same  go for it and enjoy the challenge it will give you a new lease of life i swear

  3. your never to old unless you are dead

  4. At your age I had just split up with my ex and if I wanted to see my kids, then 3 & 6, I had to change my lifestyle completely.

After a lot of false starts I ended up at the Thirty Day Challenge, a free course designed to help you start a sustainable online business. It took me a couple of months to earn my first dollar but I haven't looked back.

The challenge for this year started a few days ago but there is still plenty time to get involved.

You will meet plenty of people from your age group all determined to find a new start.

I don't earn a fortune but it has given me enough to get shared custody of my kids and I only work about 10 hours a week now.

The beauty is that it will help you create a business round your own skills and experience and it will give you freedom!

  5. never too old, go for it

  6. No, because the recent change in the law means you can not be discriminated against because of age.

  7. As a reflexologist, you can work from home, control your own hours and no-one can discriminate you for your age as you are your own boss. Plenty of time to spend with the dogs, paint etc too. You'll get to know all your customers, and be socialising all the time. i say go for it, you've nothing to lose. Well done, such a big step.

Edit: Oh and of course you arent too young, You have over a decade left before you can "officially" retire, that's a long time, you should spend it doing something you enjoy.
