I am pretty decided on the Canon line, either the Xti, XSi or maybe the XS. I like the features and upgradeability of canon cameras. However, I have no loyalty to the Canon line and I am afraid I am excluding possibly better lines such as Nikon or possibly Olympus....Please help.

  1. The XSi and XS have live view.  I have the XTi and am perfectly satisfied with it, because I really don't need live view.   There is no way I would hold a DSLR out in front of me like a point & shoot to take pics.  I rarely use a tripod, and that is about the only time live view would be used.   The XTi sells for around $600-650 now, and it has been a very popular model.

Go to a good camera store and look at these. cameras.   Hold them in your hands and take some pics.  See how easy it is to reach the controls.  You will know when you handle the one that is just right for you!

  2. One Word ... SONY!  Since buying out the Minolta line, Sony has made great steps forward on their DSLR line.  My fiance has the Sony A700 and that camera ROCKS!!  It has all the features that you would want in a lightweight, easy to handle camera with plenty of lense options!

The quality of the Canon and Nikon lines can't be denied -- however, I can personally say that Sony more than competes and is much overlooked.

    Good luck!
