I am a new driver, and I am so excited to get a Jeep Wrangler, but everyone I talk to says that they are very dangerous. I've looked at crash test ratings, and I can't find anything except good things about them. I am a very cautious driver, so I doubt I will be taking any super fast sharp turns, or going off roading or anything in it, but is it a generally unsafe car?

  1. I owned one before. Horrible reliability and horrible gas mileage. Mine was a 1992 6 cylinder and that was back in the mid 1990's. I've heard that the reliability was a lot better after 1997 redesign even if mileage is still mediocre. Safety? They are pretty safe considering they don't have the safety features mentioned above. Still, don't let that be the reason to not consider one. By the way, they aren't as easy to roll over in everyday driving as many try to lead you to believe. It's not that much different from most SUVs.

  2. No point in having a Jeep if you won't take it offroad. They are as safe as the driver.

  3. Short wheelbase makes them skittish, high center of gravity makes them more prone to roll, no door beam protection, no electronic aids such as dynamic stability control, etc. Yes generally an unsafe vehicle.

  4. "Jeepsare" is right any vehicle is only as safe as the person driving it. I have had a couple TJ's and never had any problems with them on the road.
