Question:

I am considering to not use disposable diapers and going with Biodegradable Diaper Liners or washable liners?

What is the best diaper wrap or cover to help prevent leaks? The G diaper is very expensive, I like the idea but I am looking for something more price friendly.

  1. I love plain old cotton prefolds with a Bummis SWW or a Proraps classic.  The Proraps are ugly but indestructible, and the Bummis are leak-proof.  Seriously, they won't leak p**p.  Use a Snappi for an even trimmer fit and better poo containment.

I agree about G Diapers.  They're just as expensive as disposables, and they have that crazy backward design.

Once the baby gets older, I find myself using wool covers more often.  I love wool covers, but they're very expensive.  I have several homemade soakers (thanks, mom and MIL) and I even learned to knit and made a few myself.

You'll love cloth diapers!  I would never go back to disposables!  Yuck!

  2. www.diaperpin.com

    www.diaperswappers.com

There are so, so many brands now. From most of the communities I'm in it seems most people (myself included) like Thirties covers. I like any cover made with PUL. There are fitted with covers, pockets (that have absorbent inserts), and All-in-one diapers. Diaperpin has reviews and break it all down well. I have liners but they are just a hassle-- they are not necessary until baby is on solid food (and having solid poos). Breastmilk poos wash away really well too. I just knock everything into the toilet and use wetbags from thegoodmama.com or from Leslie's Boutique.

  3. Well I was just going to post a question advising people to use a type of diaper. So you have saved me the question. I know many people who have used Mother-Ease http://www.mother-ease.com/

They have lasted at least 2 children some have done 3 and are still going strong. They are very easy to make up and wash. Easy fit with just a couple of poppers and some Velcro. I suggest the one-size diaper https://usshop.motherease.com/shopdispla...

    With the Rikki Wrap

I have seen little boys (and girls) that are at the end of the line of diapers and they still work just as well as when they were first born. My little cousin is in them and the other weekend I looked after him and found them no problem at all if not easier then disposables.

I would suggest that you have a look on their site see what will suit you best. The prices aren't to bad. For a starter pack including 6 diapers, 2 Air Flow covers and 3 absorbent liners is $96.65

It may seem expensive at first but think how much you would spend in the long run on disposable diapers. They reckon you make the money up with in the 9 weeks (well in the UK I know that you do)

Good luck - I would love to know how you get on and what you decide :)

  4. www.cottonbabies.com is a great resource for cloth diapers.

We use BumGenius 3.0s AIO at home and GDiapers at daycare. We also on occasion will use a GDiaper with a cloth insert. Cottonbabies cloth inserts are great...very absorbent and inexpensive...much cheaper then buying the GDiaper liners.

If you are thinking cloth BumGenius is a great way to go. Yes they are fairly expensive upfront ($17-$20 each) but you save money in the long run. They are also much better for the environment, are less likely to cause diaper rash, don't put harsh chemicals next to babies skin. I specifically like BumGenius because we have never had a leak with them. They are great even overnight!! They are all all one size so they work from 10lbs up to 35lbs. Admittedly they may be a little bulky for a newborn so you might want to try prefolds or even a BumGenius 2.0 in size extra small.

If price is a concern then prefolds are the way to go. Cottonbabies has some great diaper packages so that you can try out a bunch of different kinds before you settle on what you want to buy. We started with one of each of a couple of different kinds before settling on BumGenius and GDiapers.

    Good luck!!

  5. All cloth diapers are different now. There are so many kinds and sizes available. Check out Cloth Diapers on yahoo search. You will find a bunch of info and lots of references.

They are expensive to start, but they will safe you money down the road. You have to have a laundry tub, washer and dryer at your disposal to make it worth your sanity.

The biodegradable diapers....wasnt impressed with them myself. But it depends on your lifestyle.
