  1. Vietnam is actually very advanced in dealing with the bird flu virus. Neighboring countries usually send those who are believed to be infected by the SARS virus to Vietnam for treatment. You're going to find it difficult to eat chicken hile over there because Vietnam had pretty much destroyed mosgt all their chickens and ducks in order to control the virus. Long story short, there's not much to worry about SARS wile in Vietnam.

There is another thing that you should be worried about, and that is Hepatitis. I went on holiday in Ha Long Bay and some medical students were with me during the trip. They indicate that the biggest health problem in Vietnam is hepatitis. Scooter accidents is he #1 iller of Vietnamese and hepatitis is #2. So get your Hepatitis vaccination before you go to Vietnam.

    Have a great time!

  2. Be concerned, but don't be panicked.

  3. yeah dont worry about it.  Be more concerned with un-washed hands that are commonly used for picking noses, so wash hands before you pick, then flick, then wash hands again.  They normally have a long pinky nail used for picking big boogers

  4. I was there when the bird flu was first discovered, and I think it killed a few people in Vietnam.  Anyway, there is no need for concern because most of the cases were in remote places.  I suggest that you keep away from down town markets, such as China Town in Ho chi Minh City, where people come from remote places with live chickens etc to sell.  The best place for us was Nha Trang and it felt more like a holiday, but be careful, you have more chance of being pick pocketed than catching bird flu

  5. i'm going in June for 4 months and not remotely worried about it, just not going to get a chicken as a pet while i'm there
