I am cruising to Cozumel in March - can anyone recommend a good private tour?

I would like to see some of the ancient ruins, but don't really like the idea of being packed on a bus and paying way to much for the cruise organized tour. Does anyone have any experience with some private tours? do-it-yourself? Or maybe some other ideas for a day trip in Cozumel

  1. I would rent a jeep for the day. Not expensive and tour the island and see the ruins on your own.

The east side of the island is very different from the west side. The east side has surf and rip tides but what beautiful photo ops on that side of the island. Don't forget your camera. We rented a jeep for $50 dollars. We had so much fun. If you don't want to drive you can rent a cab for the day and have the cab driver take you around. Just be sure you set the price before you arrange a tour and make sure you know if it's pesos or dollars.

If your thinking of the ruins on the main island of Mexico, I don't think you have enough time to do that tour.

    Enjoy your cruise.)

  2. Cozumel is an island there are some good tours company in the island itself but the best is you can do it yourself at your own convienent time by renting either a car or scooter. Scooter is the by far the cheapest (if you know how to drive) and a lot of tourist are renting this one. Word of caution is the safety traffic & drivers are half hazard & a bit dangerous. Either way you can circle the island in one day. Just in Cozumel town you don't need a transportation you can walk everywhere........
