I have searched on-line. I have rented books. I have tried to ask others questions. I am just curious about this belief. And to be quite honest...I am drawn to it. Wicca fascinates me. Please help me out. What should I do or where should I go? Who should I talk to and how do I find them?

  1. If you have done all that, I would think you would know by now. What else are you hoping to find out?

  2. Wicca is a religion about honoring the gods. If you are interested in Wicca for any other reason then it is most likely not going to be a religion that will work for you. If you want to look into it, I would suggest the following sources -

http://wicca.timerift.net - very good online resource for accurate information regarding Wicca that is not associated with any tradition so it is good for those who are solitary and new.

Wicca: Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham - very good, basic overview of the religion. It is a common first read.

Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton - very accurate and scholarly book on the history of Wicca. Essential reading for anyone seriously interested in Wicca.

http://witchvox.com - a good resource. Lots of articles (they are user submitted so some are good and some are not so good), local resources such as groups, events, people, stores, etc., and there is a decent rundown of a variety of Wiccan traditions as well of other Pagan religions and paths.

If you are interested in meeting others, witchvox is a good source. I would encourage you to take a look at Isaac Bonewits' Cult Evaluation Frame to have an idea of what to be on the lookout for. The overwhelming majority of people you will encounter will be lovely people, but there is always the potential for an unpleasant one. Here is the link - http://www.neopagan.net/ABCDEF.html

Above all, just continue seeking information. If Wicca is right for you, you will find out.

  3. If you have questions, you can ask them here.  You can also talk to Wiccans at beliefnet.com in their Wicca forum.

At some point you're going to have to actually buy books so that you're not confined by the random availability you find in libraries.

    Here's my list of recommendations:

    http://wicca.timerift.net/books_recommen...

As a note, religion isn't really something you "try."  You either believe or you don't.  My suggestions is to continue to study until you are confident that this is the spiritual path that best fits you.

  4. In addition to some of the great suggestions already posted here (http://www.witchvox.com/, Cunningham's "Guide for the Solitary Practitioner", http://www.mind-n-magick.com, etc.) you can do a search on "Wicca" on Yahoo Groups (http://groups.yahoo.com)... "BeginningWicca" and "wiccanplace" are good ones there.  You can also search on Meetup.com for a local wiccan group (see:  http://wiccan.meetup.com/) where you can meet other people to talk to about this.

  5. The best way to learn is to read. I know you said that you've been doing that, and it's great. Keep reading!! There is so much out there, and so many people with different opinions, who are willing to share their stories and wisdom.

Depending on where you live, there are generally groups who meet up (not always Wiccans, but people with similar beliefs), you will find them listed on Witchvox ( the posts above).

Also, for any questions, this forum is a favorite, and has helped with all the silly questions I've had.

  6. Ummm, don't you already have some idea of what it's about if you've done research and read books about it?  I don't really have any advice for you other than that.  If you've already started researching, then you're all set.  That's the best way to begin to learn about Wicca.  Just read as much as you can about it.  But I will caution you, there are some websites that aren't all that great for information, and some of it may be fake.  Read with discretion.

If you're interested in becoming Wiccan, I'd suggest Scott Cunningham's "Guide for the Solitary Practicioner" for starters, and you can also try contacting other solitaries or covens in your area for advice/lessons.

I believe others who have answered this have posted the link to Witchvox.  That's a good site to find other witches/Wiccans/Pagans in your area.  That's a good place to start for that kind of stuff.

If you have any more questions, feel free to message me if you'd like.

    Good luck!

  7. C' mon, if you don't start the right way, you 'll end up nowhere. You first have to ask yourself why you want to follow Wicca. Is it because you want to be in tune with Nature and the like, or because you've been reading a lot of Harry Potter? Then, you may start reading some philosophy to build up your own world view. Then start reading about religions and some metaphysical subjects. Last but not least you may start discovering the Path...

But know that Witchcraft is not a free time activity nor a show off to a teen party. It's a whole life style and a whole life philosophy and most of all real. This means that you SHOULD take it seriously and ALWAYS obey the 3-fold law, which says 'If what you want to do harms none (including yourself), then do it)...

Try that for starters. There's tons more online, just search Wicca

Also, try the New Age section of any major bookstore, Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, ect.

  9. Merry Meet,

If you want to be a Wiccan, you will have to want to study. Practicing the Craft entails a lot of studying and dedication.

There are many legitimate sources out there today to glean knowledge from. One being Witchvox at http://www.witchvox.com/, they have many links for mentors or even a Coven, Circle or Grove near you. If there are none near you, you could look into getting online training through the Sacred Mists at http://www.workingwitches.com/wicca/cour... or OZ Wicca at http://www.ozwicca.com/ , both are pretty decent for learning the Craft on the Web.

Also if you can, get your hands on Wicca for Beginners by Thea Sabin and/or The Circle Within by Dianne Sylvan. Both of these books are very good reading and both will give you some deeper insight to the Craft and how it relates to you. If you like something more on the eclectic side, I suggest any Scott Cunningham book; they are all very well done.

I hope that this information helps you out.

    Always in Light and Love

    Nyjh

  10. Well, if you've already looked online and read books, then I would suggest contacting a coven near you and learning from then.

^Witchvox should have a way to search for covens and Wiccans in your area.
