I am African American or Black, and am 19 yrs old currently, and will be looking to adopt as a single father when i am around 27 or 28 years old. Even if I have a child biologically I will still try to adopt. 1.) Is it possible to adopt as a single father? 2.) I would like to adopt from a country like Russia Or Ireland somewhere like that, will this be possible? 3.) I will preferably want a boy, will I get that choice? 4.) How much should I be looking to spend? 5.) Even if the birth parents wanted the child back could they take him back from me?

  1. I have something you can do now be a big brother. They really need help.

As far as adopt it's even harder in the US to keep your own child when the mother puts the child up for adoption there are some men fighting to have their children returned after the mothers gave them away, so you see it is hard to adopt if your single maybe thing will change by then, Lets hope and pray it will

  2. you sound weird, you shouldnt adopt.

  3. http://www.anotherchoiceforchildren.org

this is the web site fior an agency called Another Choice for Black Children.  They could probably be of great service to you when the time comes.

    Good luck and God Bless!

  4. It is much harder for a single father to adopt than a single mother.  Given the preference for men to be married, you would be looked at suspiciously as unable to hold relationships.  Not good to raise a kid by someone who is a loner.  However, given that you are African American, you won't have as much problem adopting in the US because there are many more black or mixed race children that are available for adoption than parents wanting to adopt them, including infants.  If you have a good, stable job and a home, your prospects are much better.

Please note: it also depends on your reason for adopting.  Someone who can't have children will be looked on more favorably in your circumstances vs. someone who can but chooses not to do so in a relationship.

  5. Some people don’t have a desire to ever marry or be in a serious relationship nothing wrong with that.  Yes single men can adopt.  Countries [states] have their own adoption criteria some allow you to pick preference on race, gender etc. Some places do not like in Brazil a person can not put down a racial preference. As far as the cost it really depends on what agency you go though, and if you do an international adoption you must add on the cost of going to the country to get your child. Some require that the adoptive parents stay in the country for a time period; sometimes you might make a trip just to meet the child and then have to make a trip at a later time to pick the child up. Include cost of legal fees, agencies fees. It will likely cost 15grand if not more then that

In the USA there is a reclaim period that the birthparents can get their birthchild back the length varies but once that period has passed as long as the adoption was done right with all the T crossed and I’s dotted. They can’t get the child back.  In international adoption a reclaim period is rare. For one many of the children are living in orphanage and have been abandoned by their birthparents or their birthparent has already signed their rights away to the child.

I’m sorry sir it appears you wouldn’t be able to adopt from Russia unless they change their criteria or you’re married, they allow married couples, families already with children and single woman. Ireland does not permit singles to adopt unless one is a widow or widower. However Northern Ireland any single man or woman can adopt

You can always do search on adoption ,

[country or state] adoption. Since your not even planning to adopt for 8 to 9 years criteria  that you find today might not even be the same when it gets closer to the time, that you start your process.  Since it can take a while you might consider starting your process at 26

  6. Long time for you to explore and be sure of your decision.  Why would you pass over USA Black child ?  It sounds to me like you have problem with who you are.  Are you adopted?  Talk to a professional counselor before you make any decisions.

  7. Why will you be single? That's almost 10 years? Are you refusing to have a relationship with anyone?
