In the mean time, i was considering working for another company, in other words claiming ssp pay from my main employer and, working for the second employer as normal.. but the thing is, is there a possibility i could get caught? if so, what would be the outcome???

alternativly, i was considering going off as un-paid leave from my main employer, then working for the second company...is this more safer??

The reason for me doing this is because, i am not too keen with my main job anymore, so i was considering working another firm.... and if i do not like the second job, then i could always go back to my first job!!!

and vice versa, if i prefer the second job, then i will leave my first job....

sorry if i have confused anyone..

i do apologise

  1. I think you need to be very careful here.

If you are off sick and claiming SSP then you shouldn't be working anywhere. its cheating the system and people who really need SSP suffer as direct result from benefit frauds, and I know its nasty to say but that is what you are if you do this.

Secondly If you are trying to gaue which company would be best to work for without having to leave your current job then be careful you dont get caught because neither firm will want somebody like that working for them. You should have courage in your convictions. If you dont like the job your doing then leave. Dont go off on long term sick to get away from it thats wrong on so many levels.

Have a bit of a backbone and make a decision and stick to it.

if you decide to leave and take a new job elsewhere that you dont like then you go back to your previous company ask if there are any vacancies. If they valued your work and you dont burn your bridges with them by leaving on bad terms or claiming to be off sick when your not sick then they may take you back on. If not you just find a job somewhere else its simple.

  2. 1st - it would be illegal for you to claim SSF and work - it can be classed as fraud- this carries a fine and possible jail sentence - so not a good idea.

My suggestion is that you would like to take an "unpaid sabbatical" for a fixed period of time (you can give the reason that you are seriously thinking whether you are fitting in with the group of people and whether you are giving the company your best - you might even be considering freelancing so need to see how that would work out - this gives you the excuse to be seen working for the competition)- at the end of which you give the current company the commitment of either resigning or going back full time. If this is agreed to , you will still have  a job to go back to. If you take the first option and are caught you will become virtually un-employable - I would not want you working for me - the trust would have been gone and for you to earn you would have been placed under strict supervision - not the most pleasant way of working - trust me

  3. This sounds like fruad.

It is possiable and legal  to work in one job and get SSP from another, for example if you were a plaster with a broken leg you could stikk work as a bingo caller as there is different functions involved. If your two jobs require the same mental and physical abilities then you can not be sick for one and not the other. This would be fraud.

The chances of getting caught are very high as SSP is administered by HMRC who would see tax and NIC through a second job and query it

Your best bet is to ask employer 1 for unpaid leave of abscence
