  1. Hello, I have been working on mainframes in the insurance sector for the past three years. I can assure you that mainframe developers will never go out of buisness, simply because its an old technology and most financial organisations have atleast one or more mainframes and overall the technology doesn't change much over the years...In open system technologies like .net , ASP etc, any training you get may become useless after 2-3 years whenever newer technologies come in and replace it, so you need to be up to date with it. But in mainframes thats not the case and you will have ample job openings in most companies..Also, most mainframers also need to understand the business/domain very well, so this gives a chance to get into client communication potential abroad opportunities are much higher in mainframes than other technologies, so you should feel lucky if you like travelling..... I have been to UK for 1.5 yrs out of my 3 yrs of working on mainframes, but a few others haven't been that lucky who work on other technologies.
