I am currently majoring in Anthroplogy in College, focusing on cultural anthropology. What jobs can I get?

I was told the jobs in this field are scarce and hard to get. How true is that? And what is the pay like?

Starbucks and Caribou coffee hire lots of anthropologist as well as english majors, art majors, and bands that havent broken out yet

You could work for the government they lack Anthropologist and NEED them very badly. Think about how different the world would be if President Bush had an anthropologist on his staff. Also believe it or not big corporations hire anthropologist too. I was told advertisers and law is a good place to find work for anthropologist as well. It can be difficult to get into some field work in anthropology and your pay scale will vary depending on what kind of work you do.

I work in a Library with a B.A. in Anthropology.  Not easy to find employment.   I have known people with master degrees studying for their doctorates, working in the American Museum of Natural History.  You have to be lucky, brilliant or know somebody to get into the field job wise.

Museum jobs are your best bet mate. Academic positions are few and far between so you'll have to rely on the state to make ends meet.

I majored in Cult. Anthro. and I ended up teaching history at the high school level, eventually becoming a counselor, picking up to master's one in education and one in couseling.  However as an anthropology major you can work in fields where there is a need to work with others.  Perhaps marketing, advertisement, even sales.  Take some classes on the side that might interest you that can open more doors.  Your major will help you deal with people in various settings, you can use it to your advantage and work in other fields.

I have a cousin who works for the government.  He is constantly off doing classified work.  What an Anthropologist does that is classified is beyond me.  But they keep him very busy.
