  1. www.RockYourWall.com has a lot of cool things like Pottery Barn Teen for a lot less money!

  2. Why not do a provence theme?  You could go with mellow yellows and lavendars, and it would also lend itself well to florals and distressing/antiquing.

Alternately, I think it would be great to do something black/white/grayscale with framed and matted classic photos of Paris.

OR that made me think picking out one or two of those awesome vintage posters that have text in French (or show a French location) and build your color scheme around that.  They are normally very bold and vibrant... and almost never pink.  They also run about $20 unframed. You may also be able to tie in some of her other interests.  Cat lover: Tournée du chat noir; beach lover: Cote d'Azur; fashion: Haute-Couture; skiing: Mont Blanc, etc.  Check the vintage selection at art.com.

    Good luck!

  3. If you want a lighter feel, white and yellow with blue accents can look good.  If you're wanting to do a canopy around your bed, one way you can save a little money is to make your own posted head and footboards (not too difficult).  Lowes and Home depot sell pre-lathed table legs if you're wanting round posts, but if you want square with a full frame and canopy, I'd either recommend a dark finish with a red or maroon canopy drape, or white or yellow with a white or yellow (whichever the frame isn't) canopy drape.  If you're feeling crafty you can get bolts of muslin cloth, which can either be dyed or left white, and it won't be an overly heavy, but still very durable finish.  Muslin also is good if you're wanting to do a room divider out of cloth, or custom size canvas for your own art work.  If you're wanting to look into either of those, all you need are simple wood frames, a staple gun, and some starch.  Staple the cloth to the frame and mix 1:4 starch to water and bring to a low boil.  Brush on starch and it will shrink the muslin so that it's streched tight across the frame, from there you can paint it however you like, add edging (and hinges etc).  If your wanting to stay away from a canopy bed entierly, a basic brass or painted iron head and footboard, and a few accent pillows will have a nice look.

  4. For curtains, make sure you add a valance.

    Lace.

    A vanity w/stool.

  5. wallpaper that is paris or you can paint it yourself

  6. A solid colored paint on the wall with a classical white trim would look very elegant and French.

Also maybe some sheer, pale colored curtains. Candle shaped lights, or maybe white Christmas lights hanging around the walls (Christmas lights make a very relaxing mood in the room).

Some ironwork in the furniture as well. Maybe an iron nightstand and bed.

And finally, some beautiful photos of places in France framed and hung on the walls would be a nice touch as well.

  7. If you want to actually make it look French, not just French themed kids room, I would definitely steer clear of pink. I like the idea of walls in a creamy "French vanilla" color. Then black or dark furniture, and rich shades of sumptuous reds and yellows. Or pale sage greens and aquas. Choose rich colors and textures. Silk or satin bedding would be lovely, but if you can't afford that then I'd go for a simple bedding in a solid color with a sham around the bed. Then opt for lots of throw pillows in the colors that you choose. Choose antiques or antique-inspired furniture with lots of curves and knots. I think you should envision an elegant Parisian suite rather than Eiffel tower print everything. I also like the idea of the canopy - bed netting is an inexpensive way to achieve that look. Take a look at these: http://www.nicamaka.net/images/Nic-Casab... and http://www.floridahammock.com/images/Sia... This is basically mosquito netting but it looks lovely. When in doubt, keep it simple with neutral colors on the big stuff (walls, carpeting) and play with texture in several key accent colors. Good luck!

  8. Pink, Black and Purple

  9. burlesque

  10. french vanilla paint

  11. I dunno why but I think of a four poster bed with white net curtains round it but tied to the four posters, or a double bed with a mosquito net at the top. Lots of white and a bit of pink. And cushions. =]
