I got my Webber Afterburner 6'2" 3 years ago. People have been saying it's a beginners board and its not a good board. I haven't been surfing in a while and forgot how it cuts. I ahve caught tubes and cath waves pretty well, but will it ever improve. Is it realy a beginners board. I can't buy a new board for like another 2 years financial wise

  1. How big are you? How much do you weigh? 6'2" is a short board, unless you are three feet tall. Most folks don't start out on a short board, but that doesn't say that it can't be done. Let's face it, having a good board can really help you surf better, but let's not forget that it is your surfing ability that makes the most difference. If you suck, you suck, no matter what board your are riding on. I have been surfing for over forty years, and there are some times I really know what it's like to suck. But when I get my act together, and the waves cooperate, I don't suck anymore. And it doesn't really matter what board I am riding.

Thinking about the size of your board, I think whoever sold a 6'2" board to a beginner saw a sucker coming from a mile away (unless, like I said before, you are three feet tall). I bet you bought it in a shop that sells more bathing suits than surfboards.

Don't get discouraged. The idea behind surfing is to have FUN. That means joyful stuff, even if you aren't getting lots of offers to turn pro. Just go surfing and get stoked.

  2. Have you ever considered that it may not be the board holding you back.  If you want to get better, you have to actually surf more.  Alot.  Surfing isn't easy.  Thats what makes it so rewarding when you do start to get it.

  3. Not a surfer but definitely considering trying!

Iam glad these two guys are giving you good advice and you should definitely take it.

Don't let it put you down! Hey and even if you want to buy another board chances are you will it will just take time and patience (mainly) lol.

I have been borrowing my friends longboard skateboard and have been itching for my own but I have to wait as well.

I really hope you don't stop surfing because then you'll loose your edge and it takes time sometimes to get out of the rust.

Take Care keep ridin' them waves!

  4. dude dont let that make you quit...never quit surfing it's not like ciggies

  5. my friend has an afterburner 6'4".. its a pretty fast stick... turns on a dime... def not a beginner board.

    peace
