I would like it to be fun to make, but something I could make in my kitchen. Like not something that needs an image imprint on it.

  1. My absolute fave thing is dorayaki, which is made with red bean. There's this one place in Little Tokyo (in Los Angeles) that makes it right in front of your eyes...doesn't look too complicated and is super good!

  2. This is basically Chinese, but is seen all the time in Japanese cooking.

Steamed buns - I prefer a pork filling, but the red bean paste is very traditional too.

This dough recipe is really versatile. You can use any filling and the dough doesn't need a double rise like regular bread does. The steaming can be done in a big dutch oven with a small bowl placed upside down  in the water covering it about 1/2 way with a plate or platter on top to hold the buns. Cover for appx 10 min while cooking.

  3. I had dorayaki a number of times in Japan, but my all time fav is an ice cream like dish with a sweet bean paste filling, a cross between a sundue and mini ice cream cake, even in Japan they have shops that make a profiterole like cream puff, with a custard filling and they have some with a bit of bean paste in the shell before the custard.

And in Japan for the children they make a sweet bread shaped like animals, with red, sweet black and yellow bean paste in them, I used to buy them for myself the bear or fish shaped were my favs.

  4. burritos........ lol
