  1. Get a butterfly habitat...readily available at teacher stores.  Buy ladybugs at Home Depot.  Add roses from your yard that have afids all over them.  (Well, the roses in my yard are covered in afids...) And have the kids observe the ladybugs!  Then release them in the school's garden.

  2. You could have them make their own ladybug.  This can be done  by giving them art materials or use food.

For the art, give them a small paper plate to paint black, another small plate cut in half (for the wings), this they paint red.  Then use black pom poms to make the spots.

For the food, you can use Ritz crackers, cream cheese (died red) and raisins.  The cracker is the body of the ladybug, the red cream cheese is the wings and the raisins are the spots.

  3. we make ladybugs out of red paper plates - use one whole on and have the kids cut another one in half - hook them all together at the top with a brad. the outside plates are the wings. Attach a head, eyes and dots.

We also paint rocks to look like ladybugs.

Or you could take a half a piece of styrofoam and poke in black brads for the dots.

Book - the Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle which could take you into feelings.
