  1. Global warming as a political issue was started by Margaret Thatcher. She was awesome, but this is one idea she shot us all in the foot. She was pushing this agenda as a means to get additional nuclear plants built. unfortunately, the Eco-freaks took the idea and ran with it. Now we will all be paying more for less.

  2. us

  3. A few milestones;

Man discovers how to control fire.

Man uses coal or wood for proccessing metal. (Bronze age)

    Industrial revolution (1800ish)

    Man harnesses electricity.

    Man invents motor car.

Man starts producing Biofuels on an industrial scale.

    GL.

  4. I’m afraid you’ll have to do some reading. There are entire books on the subject of how the greenhouse effect was discovered a long time ago and how concern grew that adding large amounts of GHGs into the atmosphere could increase its warming effect and alter  climatic patterns.

Two good web resources are a web version of the book 'The Discovery of Global Warming' by Spencer Weart. He's the Director of the Center for History of Physics of the American Institute of Physics,

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/index...

This site is also not bad

    http://www.lenntech.com/greenhouse-effec...

If you want to go deeper a good book on the subject is

'What We Know About Climate Change' by Kerry Emanuel

    http://mitpress.mit.edu/catalog/item/def...

Kerry Emanuel is Professor of Atmospheric Science in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). (Wouldn't hurt for some of the skeptics to read it too.)

The Weart book can be obtained from Amazon:

  5. I think she is asking who brought up the idea of global warming, not who/what is causing it.

Look up Margaret Thatcher, and her role in alarmism.

"many European countries had already been taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions prior to 1990 (for example, Margaret Thatcher advocated action against man-made climate change in 1988[1] and Germany started to take action after the Green Party took seats in Parliament in 1983). Both "global warming" and the more politically neutral "climate change" were listed by languagemonitor.com as political buzzwords or catch phrases in 2005"

Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live 100% off of the grid and are completely self-sufficient with a 0% Carbon footprint. I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

We definitely didn't start global warming, but we definitely do contribute to it now.

Natural gas (or Methane along with other thanes) for example, is completely a natural contributer to global warming and is derived pretty much the same way as oil. ie. Matter (animal, plant etc) decomposes over time resulting in a anaerobic (hope I spelled that right) decay of non-fossil organic material / gas (natural gas or methane).

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)

  7. Global Warming started by maybe by um...  oh yeah the first car invinter thats how it started by the car invinter(don't know his name) because these gases go to the atamphere and cause Global Warming. and was caused by Thomas Edision the first ligt bulb invinter

  8. The theory that man-made greenhouse gasses could cause global warming was proposed in 1896 due to coal burning and other industrial processes.  We've added electricity generation and automobile and airline fuel use to the problem since then.  Here are the measured global temperatures that have resulted, according to NASA:

    http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/mailings/2...

<i>"The Southern Oscillation and the solar cycle have significant effects on year-to-year global temperature change. Because both of these natural effects were in their cool phases in 2007, the unusual warmth of 2007 is all the more notable. It is apparent that there is no letup in the steep global warming trend of the past 30 years. "</i>

Today coal-fired power generation accounts for about 40% of the issue and tranportation accounts for 30%.

Scientists recommend that we stop the building of coal-fired power plants that do not capture CO2 for sequestration (storage underground):

    http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/mailings/2...

As skeptics point out, this has all happened in the past due to natural influences.  What they don't accept is that we're influencing this cycle, and that past warmings such as during the Permian-Triassic Extinction resulted in over 95% of all land and ocean species going extinct.

Climate Model Links Warmer Temperatures to Permian Extinction

    http://www.physorg.com/news6003.html

"The CCSM indicated that ocean temperatures warmed significantly at higher latitudes because of rising atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The warmer temperatures reached a depth of about 10,000 feet (4,000 meters), interfering with the normal circulation process in which colder surface water descends, taking oxygen and nutrients deep into the ocean.

As a result, ocean waters became stratified with little oxygen, proving deadly to marine life. Because marine organisms were no longer removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, that, in turn, accelerated warming temperatures.

"The implication of our study is that elevated [carbon dioxide] is sufficient to lead to inhospitable conditions for marine life and excessively high temperatures over land would contribute to the demise of terrestrial life," the authors conclude.

  9. from another post

Yes I do care about the environment, but their are no facts to support human's are causing "Global Warming". Here are some fact in regards to "Global Warming".

    1. That our earth has went through cycles, Agree?? Ok, Earth has been through Ice Ages right?? SO Earth had to warm up to get out of the ice age correct?? And here in the US, we have proof that part of the US was at some time under water of the ocean, thus Coastel Plain. Therefore earth has had higher tempertures that we have known.

    2. Earth spins on an axis, like a top, and a slight change in spin will affect our temp. Our magnetic pole change every year, proof that alterations occur.

    3. The sun burns hotter as time passes.

    4. Mars average temperture has also increased 1 degree alone with earth, thus the orbits of the plants has moved closer to the sun, if it was human influenced only, why did Mars temp increase the same??

    5. NASA, the experts on earth in my eyes, have not commited that "Human influenced Global Warming exist"

    6. Al Gore and like people own business that make money for carbin credits and what not, so there is clearly an agenda to promote Global Warming. If Al gore is so concerned about it, why did he fly from New York after recieving the nobel Price, to Arizona, for an after party, and had fresh food flown in from around the world, Ironic don't you think??

    FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL

Al Gore owns a company that sells carbon credits.  His own house uses more energy than a whole neighborhood.  He justifies it by buying credits from his own company to offset the high energy use

  11. It seems, even from Al Gores movie, that a natural warming trend is underway.  However I believe man is contributing to this warming in a big way. That also is what his movie says.

Please note I was discussing global warming 30 years ago, so I am not some follower who has latched on to a new fad.

If true, then you would have to say it is caused by the industrial revolution that started maybe 150 years ago.  And would have been accelerated as the internal combustion engine became ubiquitous as well as industrial burning of coal, oil etc.

  12. Find a new project because first of all.. there is no solid evidence to suggest that global warming actually exists.  You never get to hear about the scientists that find new evidence to disprove what they previously thought.  The liberal media doesn't publish it.

Secondly, if it really is occurring, there is no single person or single place that caused it.  It would be a culmination of society.

The guy above me is absoluetely correct.

Find another project because there IS NO where or who and certainly no evidence to support that a global warming actually exists.
