In class, I have to do a project on Figurative language. i have chosen to do the term "Irony" and the example of the old man who won the lottery at age 98 and died the next day. i also need a picture to go along with it. Could you give me any ideas for the picture?

  1. Irony is caused by a contradiction in expectations

there is no irony in his age, in fact the age kind of removes the irony from the equation...

(p.s. don't rely on Alanis to define irony..she herself admits the only ironic thing about her song is that nothing she sings about is ironic)

A far better example of irony would be:

A guy is scared to death of flying, but has to take a trip

so he gets on the train instead, to avoid flying

and his train crashes killing him

It's ironic because his expectation was not flying would make him safe

and the thing he thought was safe, was actually what killed him

  2. What you could do is draw a grave stone with the dates making the dead person 98. You know, birth 1900. Death 1998. Then draw a lottery ticket lying besides the stone saying "You've Won" or "Winner" or something.

(Isn't that from a song called "Isn't it Ironic?" Or is it "Rain on your Wedding Day?)
