I am doing a school paper against g*y marriage... any help on supporting points?

i am not trying to hurt anyone but this is a big issue and i just want to know what others think about the situation and if i can get some help thinking up some soporting points

There is no real justification for any form of discrimination; everyone deserves to be happy. So, I guess you have a pretty difficult assignment.

I think the critical issue is:

People in committed g*y relationships should have the same 'legal' rights as heterosexual couples as regards the division of assets upon breakup or death, tax benefits, superannuation options etc etc.

However, marriage is between a man and a woman.  It exists for the procreation of children and the joining of a man and woman for the support of each other and the children.

g*y marriage is an oxymoron.  Unless they can create children, they can not be married.  Because marriage is a religious and cultural act which is designed for men and women to bear children safely and continue a family name.

However, just as heterosexual couples can be joined in common law - by reason of having spent lots of time together, so should g*y couples be able to enjoy the same legal priveleges.  Because outside of religion, marriage is simply a legal position.  It's not illegal to be g*y.  So it shouldn't be penalised in the legal/tax etc sense.

If it's something you're against then it's your opinion and you shouldn't get "supporting" points from anyone else to try to justify your hate. I'm sure since this is your paper your teacher would appreciate YOUR thoughts.

Well, since half of the people here are homophobic, I will give you some of my views I guess.

For one thing, there is nothing wrong with being g*y or bi in the first place.  People say it's immoral or wrong, but they have to realize, that the religions they preach this for, done a lot of bad **** in their history too.  If they are happy, then they should be together right?  There is no harm if two men or women are kissing or having s*x,  It's not like their burning innocent victims at the stake, or taking many africans against their will to foreign lands.  And for the person that says it stops the population or whatever, you have to remember that our population is getting a little bit too big.  The more people we have, the more of the natural resources we use...

g*y marriage is immoral! The people wo are g*y are discusting and will have thier punishment because God hates thier sin.

1. It destroys the country by haulting the population

2. g*y people try to take on the world by wanting to show how "happy" they are so it ruins everything

I don't understand why you care if someone's g*y. people should just stay out of each other's buisness and mind their own (yes i'm talking to you) sure I think it's gross and personally would never do that but if that's what they like then whatever. If you decided to marry someone who was unique and different from the guys your friends date would you want people  just trashing your choice???? Think about it!

A good paper should define the terms used.  Be sure to clarify any differences between "marriage" as a religious ritual & community rite of passage, & marriage as a civil contract that determines matters of insurance, medicine, property, inheritance, children & finance.

In many western countries (e.g., France, England) the civil ceremony is separate from the religious one.  Intellectually we should also separate the civil contract from that which is religious.  It is possible to advocate the latter as appropriate for same-s*x couples while supporting a religious arrangement as suitable for couples w/different types of chromosomes.

Personally, I think we have better things to do in this world than trying to prevent some folks from providing for their partners.  As a married woman, I've had certain rights & responsibilities for 43 years.  I'm not about to spend any part of the rest of my life trying to deny those same things to anyone else.
