  1. You could talk about how NZ choke every 4 years?

  2. I think a quick run-through of basic rules and format of how the game is played, how points are scored, etc., would be good.

Next, maybe a brief history of the sport - it seems like a cross between soccer and American football...does it actually have roots in either of those sports? This would make for an easy transition into the state of the game today: top teams/leagues/players.

Other areas that could pad your speech: interesting statistics (leading scorers, team with the most championships); have any historical figures been involved in rugby?; if you or anyone you know has any connections to the sport...

    Best of luck!

  3. If you are speaking to people who know nothing about rugby you'll both them to tears with stats and rules etc. Why don't you draw comparisons between the sport of rugby and other aspects of real life eg. the mateship borne on the field is similar to that experienced by men in battle or discuss the qualities it builds like determination, commitment, teamwork and sacrifice. Failing that you could talk about why so many grown men want to roll around in mud on the ground with their heads pressed up so close to other men's genitals and bums!

  4. i would go for history of the game as many people dont know how rugby was evented and the story of william webb ellis

  5. when i did my speech on rugby i did about their pay comparing it to other sports, e.g football. and i found loads of quotes from famous people/rugby players/football players about what they think about the pay. i then also compared it to other jobs e.g nursing.

if you have to do it on you team then you could talk a bit about how they first got started and their players, if anyone famous has played for them, why someone should play/support them, what makes them better than the other teams, how you first got introducted to the team, etc

  6. start with 'Rugby the physical game of chess" or the game played in heaven for a bit of humor. The global effect and how it brings countries together.Sporting rugby legends and how it builds character. Then get into the stratergies of the game, positions and so on.Basically how the game has affected you and why you play...good luck.Everyone can play it.Its a thinkers game and how to play it countering all it technicallities

  7. I think it would be interesting to focus on the origin of the sport, and how it is different from soccer and American football.  The scrum is interesting and different, as is the shape of the ball.  Depending on how long you have to speak, you could also talk about the protective equipment, or lack thereof, and what the most common injuries are.
