I don't even like kids that much, the only reason I am doing it at a kindergarten is because when I walked past a kindergarten, I just got this gut feeling that this is where i should do it... it was a really weird strong gut feeling, but now I'm regretting the choice. Has anyone worked at a kindergarten before? or does anyone have any tips on how to get out of it, another place to try for work experience, or any tips on how to survive this?

  1. Kindergarten is a great age group (better than younger kids)

    They are independent

    You can converse w/ them

    You can joke w/them

The are eager to learn/Love to please teacher

    They are fun

    Stick w/it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. i cant be bias because i don't work in a kindergarten, but i do love kids and have learnt that they really do look up to you and idolise you. so my advise is be careful. if you don't like what your doing it could have an effect on the kids you are working with because yes they do tend to copy your every move. if it really isn't something you want to do then figure out what it is you do want and i can assure you you will love going to work everyday.

  3. This is a bias answer since I use to be a kindergarten teacher, but I think you should try it a least for a bit if you are willing to give it 100%. These are kids who are going to look up to you and their parents will be trusting you so they deserve your best. Kindergarten teachers do not get to have a bad day...we fake it until we make it.  It is very rewarding and fun because you get to do all those things you loved doing as a kid and the kids think you are a genius for knowing how to do it.

  4. I agree with the answers that suggest sticking with it.  I taught kindergarten for eight years.  I teach 1st grade now.  Kindergarten is tough and it isn't for everyone.  I don't know one 5th grade teacher who says they'd just as easily teach kindergarten and if my principal wanted to make me quit he could assign me to 5th grade.  Sticking with it will help you decide what grade level you want to teach.

  5. I am a kindergarten teacher and my advice is to stick with it for a little while and see if you change your mind.  When I did my internship in a kindergarten classroom, I hated it!  I swore that I would never teach kindergarten.  After graduation, the first job I found was as a kindergarten teacher.  I took it because I needed a job...I have stuck with it because I grew to LOVE kindergarten!  I'll be honest, kindergarten's tough.  You can't have a bad day, you can't let your stress show, you have to keep a smile on your face and stay on top of your game at all times.  But it's so worth it.  Those kiddos love you in the purest sense of the word.  They look up to you and you get to start them off on their school journey.  You can give them a love of school and learning that will continue with them throughout their entire lives.

  6. Why are your regetting it?  It's a personal choice, really...some people are made for teaching these early years...some are not...but I agree with the others...stick with it.  It seems very chaotic at first but really, as the year progresses, you can see beyond the chaos.  It does take a lot of energy at this age...but it's an awesome age...they so want to learn and are excited about all the new things that are being taught.
