  1. because gas prices vary from day to day. id say anywhere from 2500 to 5000

  2. a lot so fill up whenever you can and if you are in an isolated road, i would have an extra can of gas

  3. About $500.  Assuming you're getting about 25mpg, that would do it, at $4/gal.

  4. Lots of variables....Are you driving all Interstate, or are you going to be on 2 lane rural highways, or are you going over mountains, and are you a heavy lead foot peel away from the light or more of an easy going light on the brake,  and gas price varies by state/region, and cities within the same state...

At 20 miles per gallon you need 156.5 gallons, at $4 a gallon that would be $626.  At $4.25 it would be $665

I'd figure to take between $700-800 and you should be covered.

Over the 4th of July weekend  I drove from Chicago to Duluth, Minnesota and back  with an '08 Ford Taurus X, traveling about 70-75mph on the way up and way slower on the way back as I got into a 40 to 50 mile back up where we just crawled, stopped & started, went up to 30mph for a quarter mile, etc.  Took 2 extra hours than normal.

I went aproximately just over 900 miles and used 46.5 gallons with  fill ups  ( not always gettin a full tank, but getting a full tank upon coming home ) costing me $4.07, $3.97, $4.00, and $4.22 and it cost me aprox. $188.00

The last price is what was current 5 days ago in Chicago, it is now anywhere from $4.15 to $4.29 in the suburbs depending on where you are at.

Good luck, hope you drive is uneventfull, but fun.
