  1. they will confiscate it from you at the border.

  2. Yes you can bring coffee (giiven that is packed and not a live coffee plant)

Customs only detains certain items like live animals or plants, besides that you can bring whatever you feel to the US within certain limit if it is a new product.

If all the stuff is yours and has been used already like all your personal belongings when you move you can transport easily into the US.

If you do a crossing in one of the borders with California some friuts are illegal to cross because this state wants to keep its state pest free (but they also apply to traffic coming from AZ) other thing if you live in CA you may only bring 1 litter of alcohol...but if you live anywhere else you might bring up to 300 l (i think) just going through costums and paying a tax fee. (check if you plan on  that)

If in your visit to Mexico all you plan to bring is bags of coffee go ahead :)

  3. You BEST declare anything you purchased.

  4. no problem as long as it is properly packaged

  5. Well, I drove home to the U.S. with about 30 pounds of coffee in my suitcases...just figured I would have to give it up if they asked, but they did not. You are allowed to bring $400.00 worth of gifts back into the U.S. duty free.  My only worry was that it ws a food substance.  But it was all profesionally packaged.  Anyway, they didn't look and didn't ask.
