  1. i would look up the Mexican consul office on the Internet also check with U.S. State Dept. about travel advisories, you Will also need extra car insurance.h**l just ask charlie i'll wager he knows

  2. If you are planning to go as a tourist for 6 months or less, you may get your tourist card ) also called an FMT) at the border.  The cost is about $22.00 U.S.  You must then go to the vehicle registration office in the first town across the border and get a car permit.  Cost is about $100.00 U.S.  It consists of a sticker for your windshield and paperwork to hold onto.  It is good as long as your tourist card is good.  You must also have a valid credit card with you.  They will take an mprint of the card to save.  If you were to try to leave the country without your vehicle, you would be fined $400.00 as it is illegal to sell an American car in Mexico.  You must have your current registration papers and your title with you to get your car permit.  If the car is still financed, you must have a letter of permission from the lender to take the car to Mexico.  you will need to purchase mexican car insurance before crossing the border.  There are many places to do this, but my favorite ( nice folks and cheap rates) is San Xavier in Tuscon. 1-888-327-1255.  See websites below for additional info.  it is not currently required that you have a passport for land travel to Mexico.  But, as early as jan. 2008, passports may be required for land travel, so it would be wise to have one.  Do have at least 2 certified copies of your birth certificate and a paper on which you have copies of 3 other forms of I.D. like drivers license, car registration, a professional I.d. card or license, voter card...something else "official "looking with your name on it.  Lay them together and copy onto one sheet and have 3 copies of this sheet...you may frequently have use for it.  Also have a couple of copy machine copies of your birth certificate.  All goes  well for you.

  3. right before u cross the border tjat says MEXICO u can ask for a guide which is called "Guia del paisano" its a  white booklet and says BIENVENIDO PAISANO all the information you need is there ! ask for it they should give it to you
